Blue Horizon
This was a challenging and time-consuming piece. Each ring is only ¼” in height. Due to the fact that the maple squares connect at the corners, particular attention was paramount for accurate axis alignment and segment sizes. The polyester is custom cast and dyed using an opaque pigment.
What I like about this piece is how the maple squares, in the right lighting, can be seen in three dimension because of the semi transparency of the polyester.
The piece is one quarter wood (about 21lf of maple strips) and three quarters polyester (about 63lf of poly strips)
Segmented Construction year 2020. There are 60 rings and 1,719 segments
Vase measures 15 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches in diameter at its widest section.
Materials used: Curly maple, Clear Polyester Casting Resin, Catalyst, and Blue Opaque Pigment Concentrate.
Finish: Waterlox, wax.
